The steering column module provides a 5-volt reference voltage to the tilt position sensor circuit and to the telescope position sensor circuit. The steering column module monitors the 5-volt reference voltage and sets DTC B1396, if the voltage is out of range.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC B1396 Device Voltage Reference Output Circuit Range/Performance
The steering column module is ON.
DTC B1396 will set as current when the voltage is out of the range of 4.6-5.2 volts for 1.2 seconds.
Memory recall functions for the steering column module will be disabled.
| • | DTC B1396 will no longer have a current status when the voltage is within the range of 4.6-5.2 volts for 1.2 seconds. |
| • | A scan tool can clear the DTC. |
A short to ground in any of the tilt or telescope position sensor circuits may damage the tilt/telescoping module.
