Inspect for the following conditions:
| • | An overfilled reservoir |
| • | Air bubbles in the fluid |
| • | Loose pipe/hose connections |
Perform the following actions when the steering gear and pump requires
service:
| • | Clean the leakage area upon disassembly. |
| • | Replace the locking seal. |
| • | Inspect the component sealing surfaces for damage. |
The following complaints about the power steering system may be reported:
| • | Fluid leakage on the garage floor |
| • | Visible fluid leaks on the steering gear or pump |
| • | Growling noise, especially when parking or when the engine is
cold |
| • | The loss of power steering when parking |
When you troubleshoot these kinds of complaints, inspect for an external
leak in the power steering system.
