Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
- Remove the driver seat. Refer to Bucket Seat Replacement in Seats.
- Remove the J-clips on the back of driver's seat.
- Remove the plastic molding (2) that holds the air bag inflator module (1) to the driver seat back frame.
- Note the routing of the wiring harness (3) to the air bag inflator module and the retaining clip attachments within the driver seat.
- Remove the wiring harness retaining clips from the driver seat frame.
- Remove the wiring harness (3) from the driver seat frame.
- Remove the inflator module (1) from the driver seat back frame.
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
Caution: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following
parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
• The seat cushion frame • The seat recliner, if equipped • The seat adjuster
Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.
• The seat back frame
Installation Procedure
- Install the inflator module wiring harness (3) to the driver seat frame, while guiding the wiring harness through the appropriate spots on the driver seat frame.
- Install the wiring harness retaining clips to the driver seat frame.
- Install the plastic molding (2) that holds the air bag inflator module to the driver seat back frame.
- Install the air bag inflator module (1) to the driver seat back frame.
- Install the J-clips on the back of driver's seat.
- Install the driver seat. Refer to Bucket Seat Replacement in Seats.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
