Rear Housing Assemble NV3500

Tools Required

1. Install the rear housing shift shaft bearing. Use J 36506 and J 36190 .

1.1.	The writing on the bearing lip should face down.

1.2.	Install the bearing flush with the housing surface.




2. Install 2 dowel pins in the housing flange.

Drive the dowel pins rearward and flush with the flange surface.




3. Install the slip yoke oil seal. Use J 36503 .



4. Fill the space between the seal lips with chassis grease. Use GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.

Rear Housing Assemble Four Wheel Drive

Tools Required

1. Remove the rear housing shift shaft bearing. Use tool J 23907 with a suitable pilot bearing puller.

•	Install the puller legs behind the bearing lip.

•	If the bearing lip breaks off, install the puller legs behind the inside (outer end) bearing lip.




2. Drive out 2 dowel pins.



3. Remove the following components:

3 bolts

3.2.	The output shaft bearing retainer




4. Remove the output shaft bearing assembly. Use a brass drift.
5. Remove the gasket material from the housing. Use liquid gasket remover.

Rear Housing Assemble Rear Wheel Drive

Tools Required

1. Install the rear housing shift shaft bearing. Use J 36506 and J 36190 .

1.1.	The writing on the bearing lip should face down.

1.2.	Install the bearing flush with the housing surface.




2. Install 2 dowel pins in the housing flange.

Drive the dowel pins rearward and flush with the flange surface.




3. Install the slip yoke oil seal. Use J 36503 .



4. Fill the space between the seal lips with chassis grease.
