Wheel Cylinder Replacement for Oldsmobile Alero 2004
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the brake drum. Refer to
Brake Drum Replacement.
- Remove the brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement.
- Clean the dirt and foreign material around the wheel cylinder.
- Remove the bleeder valve (1).
- Remove the brake hose banjo bolt. Cap the brake hose fitting to prevent brake fluid leakage and contamination.
Important: Do not reuse the brake hose fitting gaskets.
- Remove and discard the brake hose fitting gaskets.
- Remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts (2).
- Remove the wheel cylinder (3).
Installation Procedure
- Apply LOCTITE® GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the wheel cylinder shoulder
face that contacts the backing plate.
- Position the wheel cylinder (3) to the backing plate.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the wheel cylinder mounting bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the wheel cylinder mounting bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Assemble the 2 new brake hose fitting gaskets and the brake hose banjo bolt to the brake hose.
- Install the brake hose assembly to the wheel cylinder.
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose banjo bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the bleeder valve (1).
Tighten
Tighten the valve to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Install the brake shoes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement.
- Adjust the drum brakes. Refer to
Drum Brake Adjustment.
- Install the brake drum. Refer to
Brake Drum Replacement.
- Bleed the brake hydraulic system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Adjust the parking brake. Refer to
Parking Brake Adjustment in Park Brake.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
