Seal Replacement Recommendations for Oldsmobile Aurora 1999
The lip seals seal the rotating shafts. The lip seals require special treatment. Lip seals are used on the steering gear at the following locations:
| • | The pinion shaft |
| • | On the pump drive shaft |
When a leak occurs in these areas, complete the following steps:
- Inspect the sealing surface.
- Clean the sealing surface.
- Replace the seal.
If corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is slight, clean the surface of the shaft using a crocus cloth. Replace the shaft only under the following conditions:
| • | You find such severe pitting that cleaning the shaft will not stop the leak |
| • | The Unit Repair procedures indicate that the shaft is replaceable. |
