Diagnostic Instructions

Circuit/System Testing
- Start the engine. Verify the noise can be heard. Compare the concern to a similar vehicle.
- Remove the starter.
- Inspect the flywheel for the following:
| • | Loose flywheel bolts |
| • | Chipped gear teeth |
| • | Missing gear teeth |
| • | Bent flywheel |
| ⇒ | If not within specifications, tighten the flywheel bolts or replace the flywheel. |
| ⇒ | If all inspections were within specification, replace the starter motor. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
