Removal Procedure
- Remove the clutch cable
retainer.
- Remove the clutch cable from the clutch pedal.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, remove the clutch cable clip bracket
bolt and clip.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, without regular production option (RPO)
MT0, cut the cable strap.
- From under the hood, remove the clutch cable retainer.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, with RPO MT0, remove the cable clip bolt.
- From under the hood, remove the clutch cable retainer.
- Remove the clutch cable from the front of dash.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle, if required. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, remove the clutch fork return spring.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MUT/MS9/MT3/MK0/ML0/M69, remove the clutch fork return
spring.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs M69/MK8/MK9, and the 1.75 inch pilot shaft spline,
remove the clutch fork return spring.
- If equipped with the 7.2L
engine, and RPOs MS9/MT3, remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer
(1).
- Remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) from the lever.
- Remove the clutch cable retainer (2).
- Remove the clutch cable nuts (3), washers (4), and swivel (5)
from the cable.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MUT/MS9/MT3, remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod
swivel retainer (1).
- Remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) from the lever.
- Remove the clutch cable retainer (2).
- Remove the clutch cable nuts (3), washers (4), and swivel (5)
from the cable.
- If equipped with the 8.1L
engine, and RPOs MM7/MNC/MPU/MSC/MSG, and the 13 inch clutch, remove the clutch
cable retainer nuts (2).
- Remove the clutch cable swivel (1) from the cable.
- Remove the clutch cable retainer (3).
- Remove the clutch cable from the clutch fork.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
engine, and RPOs MK8/MK9, and the 14 inch clutch, and the 1.75 inch pilot
shaft spline, remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (1).
- Remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) from the lever.
- Remove the clutch cable retainer (2).
- Remove the clutch cable nuts (3), washers (4), and swivel (5)
from the cable.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MK0/ML0/MNC/MPU, and the 1.75 inch spline pilot shaft,
remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (3).
- Remove the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (1) from the lever.
- Remove the clutch cable retainer (2).
- Remove the clutch cable nuts (4), washers (5), and swivel (1)
from the cable.
- Remove the clutch cable from the anchor bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Route the clutch cable
through the anchor bracket.
- Install the clutch cable retainer (2).
- If equipped with the 6.6L or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MK0/ML0/MNC/MPU,
and the 1.75 inch spline pilot shaft, install the clutch cable swivel (1),
washers (5), and nuts (4) to the cable.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (1) to the lever.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (3).
- Install the clutch cable
retainer (2).
- If equipped with the 6.6L engine, and RPOs MK8/MK9, and the 14
inch clutch, and the 1.75 inch pilot shaft spline, install the clutch cable
swivel (5), washers (4), and nuts (3) to the cable.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) to the lever.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (1).
- Route the clutch cable
through the clutch fork.
- Install the clutch cable retainer (3).
- If equipped with the 8.1L engine, and RPOs MM7/MNC/MPU/MSC/MSG,
and the 13 inch clutch, install the clutch cable swivel (1) to the cable.
- Install the clutch cable retainer nuts (2).
- Install the clutch cable
retainer (2).
- If equipped with the 6.6L or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MUT/MS9/MT3,
install the clutch cable swivel (5), washers (4), and nuts (3) to the cable.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) to the lever.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (1).
- Install the clutch cable
retainer (2).
- If equipped with the 7.2L engine, and RPOs MS9/MT3, install the
clutch cable swivel (5), washers (4), and nuts (3) to the cable.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel (5) to the lever.
- Install the clutch pedal adjustment rod swivel retainer (1).
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs M69/MK8/MK9, and the 1.75 inch pilot shaft spline,
install the clutch fork return spring.
- If equipped with the 6.6L
or 7.2L engine, and RPOs MUT/MS9/MT3/MK0/ML0/M69, install the clutch fork
return spring.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, install the clutch fork return spring.
- Lower the vehicle, if required.
- Route the clutch cable
through the front of dash.
- From under the hood, install the clutch cable retainer.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- If equipped with the 1.75 inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline,
with RPO MT0, install the cable clip bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the clutch cable clip bolt to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- From under the hood, install
the clutch cable retainer.
- If equipped with the 1.75 inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline,
without RPO MT0, install a NEW cable strap.
- If equipped with the 1.75
inch or 1.5 inch pilot shaft spline, install the clutch cable bracket and
bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the clutch cable bracket bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the clutch cable
to the clutch pedal.
- Install the clutch cable retainer.
- Adjust the clutch cable. Refer to
Clutch Control Cable Adjustment
