Schematic Reference: Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Schematics

Did you review the daytime running lamps (DRL) description and operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition switch, with the engine OFF.
  2. Disengage the parking brake.
  3. Is the DRL indicator illuminated?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Are the DRLs illuminated?

Go to Step 4

Go to Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Inoperative

Set the parking brake.

Does the park brake indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Release the parking brake.
  3. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the DRL relay control circuit of the DRL indicator with a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Release the parking brake.
  3. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the DRL indicator ignition positive voltage circuit with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Test the DRL indicator control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the DRL indicator bulb for an open filament or poor connection in the Instrument Panel Cluster. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DRL control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect the DRL indicator control circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open, high resistance, or short to ground in the DRL indicator ignition positive voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
