Schematic Reference: Door Lock/Indicator Schematics

DEFINITION: This diagnostic should be used to diagnose a complete failure of the power door lock system (lock, unlock or both).

Did you review the Power Door Locks Description and Operation?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Doors

Actuate all door lock switches to both the lock and unlock positions.

Did all the doors lock and unlock?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Did any of the doors lock and unlock from any of the switches?

Go to Power Door Locks Inoperative - One Door or Switch

Go to Step 4

1. Disconnect the driver door lock switch
2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit at the driver door lock switch harness connector and a good ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 15

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the driver door lock switch ground circuit at the driver door lock switch harness connector.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 16

1. Connect the driver door lock switch.
2. Disconnect the passenger door lock switch.
3. Connect a test lamp between the door lock control circuit at the passenger door lock switch harness connector and a good ground.
4. Press the driver door lock switch to the lock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 10

1. Connect a test lamp between the door unlock control circuit at the passenger door lock switch harness connector and ground.
2. Press the driver door lock switch to the unlock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 11

1. Connect the passenger door lock switch.
2. Backprobe the door lock actuator lock circuit at the passenger door lock switch harness connector with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
3. Press the driver door lock switch to the lock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 13

1. Backprobe the door lock actuator unlock circuit at the passenger door lock switch harness connector with a test lamp connected to a good ground.
2. Press the driver door lock switch to the unlock position.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 14

Test for an open in the door lock control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

Go to Step 12

Test for an open in the door unlock control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Go to Step 12

Inspect for poor connections at the driver door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

Go to Step 17

Inspect for poor connections at the passenger door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

Go to Step 18

Repair the open(s) in the in the door lock actuator lock and or unlock circuit(s). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Repair the open in the door lock switch battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Repair the open in the driver door lock switch ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Replace the driver door lock switch.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Replace the passenger door lock switch.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 19

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

System OK
