Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Upper Bearing Inner Race Replacement Off Vehicle

Tools Required

    • J 41352 Steering Column Holding Fixture
    • J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 343711  Size: SH
  1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  3. Set the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  4. Important: Align the block tooth on the race and upper shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

  5. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position and remove the key.
  6. Check the steering column jacket assembly for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection .
  7. If necessary, remove the wire harness assembly strap (1) and any other wire harness straps.

  8. Object Number: 343728  Size: SH
  9. Compress the turn signal cancel cam assembly using J 23653-SIR .
  10. Remove and dispose of the bearing retainer (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
  11. Remove J 23653-SIR .

  12. Object Number: 354109  Size: SH
  13. Remove the steering shaft spacer (1).
  14. Remove the turn signal cancel cam (2).
  15. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 354110  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
  2. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
  3. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
  4. Install the steering shaft spacer (1).

  5. Object Number: 343728  Size: SH
  6. Compress the turn signal cancel cam assembly using J 23653-SIR .
  7. Install the new bearing retainer (1) into the groove on the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove J 23653-SIR .

  9. Object Number: 343711  Size: SH

    Notice: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in malfunction of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.

  10. Install the small wire harness straps.
  11. Install the wire harness assembly strap (1).
  12. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.
  13. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  14. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
