4T65-E Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness Assembly Check

  1. Install a J 39775 Jumper Harness on the transmission 20-way connector, if needed.
  2. Using a J 39200 Digital Multimeter (DMM) and a J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit, measure the resistance between terminals A and E (1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

19-24 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

24-31 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the 1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the 1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

19-24 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

24-31 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Go to Step 16

Measure the resistance between terminals B and E (2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

19-24 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

24-31 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the 2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the 2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

19-24 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

24-31 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Measure the resistance between terminals T and E (TCC PWM Sol. Valve).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

10-12 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

13-15 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the TCC PWM Sol. Valve.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the TCC PWM Sol. Valve.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

10-12 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

13-15 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Measure the resistance between terminals C and D (PC Sol. Valve).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

3-5 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

5-6 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the PC Sol. Valve.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the PC Sol. Valve.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

3-5 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

5-6 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Measure the resistance between terminals S and V (ISS).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

893-1127 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

1132-1428 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the ISS.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the ISS.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

893-1127 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

1132-1428 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Measure the resistance between terminals M and L (TFT).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

3164-3867 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

225-285 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission wiring harness from the TFT.
  2. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance of the TFT.

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

3164-3867 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

225-285 ohms at 88°C (190°F)

Using the J 39200 DMM and the J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit, measure the resistance of the automatic transmission wiring harness from pins A, B, C, D, E, and T of the transmission 20-way connector to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than shown?

250 K ohms

Using the J 39200 DMM and the J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit, measure the resistance of the automatic transmission wiring harness from pins L and M of the transmission 20-way connector to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than shown?

20 M ohms

Using theJ 39200 DMM and the J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit, measure the resistance of the automatic transmission wiring harness from pins S and V of the transmission 20-way connector to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than shown?

10 M ohms

System OK

Go to Step 17

Inspect for high resistance:

    • Inspect the automatic transmission wiring harness for poor electrical connections at the transmission 20-way connector and at the component connector.
    • Look for possible bent, backed out, deformed, or damaged terminals.
    • Check for weak terminal tension.

Was the condition found and corrected?
